Pat O'HarePat O'Hare

Pat is Executive Director of HIT and was Director of the Mersey Drug Training and Information Centre (now known as HIT) from 1987 to 1994. In 1989 he founded the International Journal of Drug Policy and was Editor for 10 years from 1990. In 1990 he started the International Conference on the Reduction of Drug Related Harm in Liverpool. In 1996 he was one of the founders of the International Harm Reduction Association (now Harm Reduction International) and was Executive Director until 2004. He was Honorary President from 2004 to 2011. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Harm Reduction International and the Middle East and North African Harm Reduction Association.

He has edited three books on harm reduction, has published extensively on HIV prevention, education and drug policy, and has spoken at many international conferences during the past 29 years.

In 1990 Pat won two awards, the Drug Policy Foundation’s Norman E Zinberg Award for Achievement in the Field of Medicine and Treatment and the International Rolleston Award. He is Visiting Professor in Drug Use and Addiction at Liverpool John Moores University.
